Let's admit we do have some false goals set up for us at some point in our lives.
In this world where we are surrounded by social media, we do get influenced by false goals. Let's talk how can we identify we have a false goal in front of us so that we can stop chasing it.
Let’s admit one thing today that today that we humans get influenced so easily these days. Thanks to social media. If we don’t filter or monitor our social media apps feeds, we might easily get carried away to someone’s life within seconds and get invested in their lives. Same is the case with our life goals. Do you remember, when we were little kids our parents used to ask us what would we become when we grow up? And we used to answer scientist, astronaut ,doctor, engineer and so on.
Have you ever thought from where were these goals and ambitions coming into our minds as kids? It was all around us or maybe someone like our parents were setting up these goals for us here and there in the conversations. Do you really remember as a kid that you actually set out for a goal for yourself without getting inspired or influenced by your far relative, some close friend ,some student in your college, school or your neighbor? And to connect this with social media in 2024,if a celebrity does one trend then so many people blindly start following them as their life goals without even evaluating that do they really align with their life or values. Some people start taking actions towards a trending career they see on the internet and later find out they really don’t like doing that. Some are lucky enough to change their pathways and some get stuck there for lifetime .This results in non fulfillment in our life and probably also leads one to question their life choices forever. These types of goals are known as FALSE GOALS.
Picture above depicts some kind of goals with every domain of life which we can create for ourselves.
I will like to talk about the features of false goals so that how we can identify these false goals in our lives and stop for a second and realign ourselves.
False Goals will feel like an obligation every time .Let’s see this example ,have you ever chased a goal in your life where you feel things are tough but our society tell us that start doing it but with time things will get easy. But that’s not the case! Things always feel like forced to us and we really don’t get excited while doing them.SO if this happens, just STOP and tell yourself it’s just a false goal and not meant to be chased by you.
If you are making maximum effort to achieve your goal but left feeling uninspired and fatigues either the goal is not meant for you or you are knocking at the wrong door
False Goal is often projected as something trendy. Let’s understand this by this way. Have you ever come across a career choice when you were young and you saw your classmates opting to study medicine as doctors earn good or classmates taking up engineering stream because of the software industry boom? Whereas what your soul actually wanted pursue after high school was probably sports as a profession? Or it could be arts too! If you find your soul is not aligned and you are just following the trendy career option blindly then STOP and tell yourself it’s just a false goal and not meant to be chased by you.
False Goal attracts you by being unachievable. Some people love to be challenged and they go into do or die mode when their ego is challenged if someone says they can’t do so and so thing. Many times when we do something just to prove people and get validation it is a false goal. We need to understand we all are unique on this planet Earth and we don’t need to prove anything to anyone here on our journey on Earth.
This past week I uploaded Episode 52 of "Project Perks with Harkiran," where we explore the fascinating journey of Melissa Chapman, a bilingual Project Manager, PMP Application eBook Author, and Course Instructor. Instead of chasing these false goals we can always ask ourselves “How can I discover what I really want if I do not already know what that is”? Have you ever seriously thought about this? Let’s admit many of us are consumed by the social media ,office politics ,some personal rivalry with someone or some personal health issues and so on. We do need to take out time on daily basis and question ourselves whatever I chased today or I will be chasing tomorrow provides me fulfillment or not? Does that fall under the category of false goal or is it something really I want from the bottom of my heart? Trust me once you ask such questions to yourself you are UNSTOPPABLE and you will be on the path to do some remarkable stuff in your life and will just shut the extra noise.
To conclude ,I would like to say achieving a goal that is not yours will being disappointment but never happiness!
